Bangkok may not have falling leaves or crisp autumn air, but at The Authors’ Lounge, the season arrives on the afternoon tea stand.
From 1 September to 30 November, Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok is giving its afternoon tea an autumn turn, bringing together pear, chestnut, apple, pecan and other seasonal flavours in the elegant surroundings of one of the city’s most storied hotels.
The experience begins with poached pear and chestnut ice cream before moving into a line-up of savoury bites. Paris ham and Gruyère come layered on rye bread with pickled cucumber and mustard seeds, while ricotta and pickled pear are paired with walnut bread. Smoked salmon and beetroot arrive on beetroot bread with horseradish cream and pickled onion.
There are lighter, more tropical notes, too. Pomelo salad with crab meat is served with pomelo jelly, while chicken and carrot salad comes on carrot bread with pickled carrot.

ARTS & CULTURE
Bangkok’s Hidden Temple
Hidden within the grounds of the former Front Palace, Wat Bowon Sathan Sutthawat — better known as Wat Phra Kaew Wang Na — is open to the public until Sept. 20. For visitors and Bangkok residents alike, it is a rare opportunity to step inside one of the city’s lesser-seen royal temples and enter a painted world of Buddhas, Hindu gods, celestial beings and stories shaped by centuries of religious and artistic exchange.

No afternoon tea would be complete without scones, and here they arrive freshly baked in the traditional style, accompanied by seasonal fruit preserves and a choice of Devonshire cream, mascarpone or butter.
Then come the sweets. Tropical Bloom Cake sits alongside Thai Tea Caramel Tart, Chocolate Flan and Apple Tart, with pecan cookies and croissants rounding out a spread designed around the warmer colours and comforting flavours of autumn.
The setting adds much of the occasion. With its white rattan furniture, tropical greenery and old-world atmosphere, The Authors’ Lounge has long been one of Bangkok’s classic places for afternoon tea — an elegant retreat from the heat and bustle outside.
The Autumn Afternoon Tea runs from 1 September to 30 November 2026 at The Authors’ Lounge, Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok. It is priced at THB 1,980++ per person, or THB 2,680++ per person with a glass of Champagne.
